THE ART OF CIGAR AND WINE PAIRINGS
INTRODUCTION:
We’re back again with another epic group of cigar pairings. As we all know, bourbon and cigars are very well highlighted throughout the industry, but don’t underestimate the power of a good wine with your favorite cigar.
In this guide, we will focus on three exceptional cigar brands - Surrogates by L'Atalier, Davidoff, and Aladino. These brands will be paired with wines that complement their unique flavor profiles.
Combining a cigar with a nice glass of wine is a perfect way to dive into the nuances of any cigar blend. Wine as a pairing provides a completely different experience – often intensifying the taste buds and providing a synergy like no other. As with any pairing, it is best to choose a wine that will complement the cigar, rather than clash and overwhelm the palate.
As I always like to preface, these pairings are based on my palate for both the wine and cigar selection. I recognize that the way we experience flavors is different from person to person. With that, let’s look at some pairings!
THE PAIRINGS:
1. SURROGATES BY L'ATALIER SKULL BREAKER AND SYRAH
As with anything that comes out of the My Father Factory, Skull Breaker by L’Atalier features perfect construction, deep flavors, and a complex experience. With its full-bodied profile and notes of dark chocolate, black pepper, and leather, this cigar demands a wine that can hold its ground. Enter Syrah, an intense and robust red wine that meets the challenge.
Syrah wines, also known as Shiraz in some parts of the world, are known for their bold, dark fruit flavors, hints of spice, and a touch of smokiness. The robustness and depth of Syrah perfectly complements the strong and intricate flavors of the cigar, creating a truly satisfying pairing. Allow the flavors of both the cigar and the wine to intermingle, and you'll enjoy a masterpiece of flavor and complexity that will leave you wanting more.
2. DAVIDOFF WINSTON CHURCHILL AND CHARDONNAY
The Davidoff Winston Churchill cigar pays homage to the iconic statesman and his refined tastes. This cigar offers a blend of flavors, with notes of toast, cedar, and subtle spices. To match the elegance and sophistication of this cigar, we turn to a classic Chardonnay, one of the world's most popular white wines – and for good reason.
Chardonnay is a versatile wine that comes in various styles, from crisp and unoaked to buttery and full-bodied. When paired with the medium bodied Davidoff Winston Churchill, Chardonnay contained hints of fruit and a creamy texture, which complemented the cigar's refined nuances. The softness of the wine enhances the flavor of the cigar, creating a balance that delights the palate.
3. ALADINO VINTAGE AND ROSÉ
Aladino cigars are known for their exceptional construction, showcasing the mastery of generations of Honduran cigar makers. Aladino Vintage Lancero offers a creamy and complex medium to full-bodied profile, with notes of white pepper and a floral undertone. To accompany this cigar, we recommend a refreshing glass of Rosé wine.
Rosé wines, with their delicate yet vibrant flavors, provide a fantastic contrast to the Aladino Vintage cigar. The crisp acidity and fruity notes of a well-made Rosé underscore the cigar's nuanced flavors, while keeping the palate refreshed and engaged. This offers a delightful combination of flavors, providing a sophisticated and enjoyable experience.
