ABOUT E.P. CARILLO

The Carrillo family has a long history in cigar tobacco. Ernesto Sr. was born in Cuba in 1904 and it was there that he began the Cuban factory “El Credito.” Unfortunately, when the Cuban Revolution happened and Castro took over, the Carrillos were forced to flee to Miami. There, Ernesto Sr. worked odd jobs to support his family, before finally opening a new El Credito factory in Little Havana.

Meanwhile, Ernesto’s son was travelling to New York City to try and become a jazz musician. Eventually, he returned to Florida and began working with his father at El Credito. There, the two created the famed La Gloria Cubana brand, and after a series of high ratings in Cigar Aficionado in the early 90’s, the line became a huge hit. La Gloria eventually became so big it was bought out, and EPC went on to form a new legacy.

Today, Ernesto Perez-Carrillo Jr. runs a factory in the Dominican Republic and sells cigars under his own name. The La Historia honors the history of his family and was rated the #2 Cigar of the Year when it was released. Then, EPC hit a string of back-to-back winners with the Encore and Pledge, both taking home the crown of #1 Cigar of the Year in 2018 and 2020.

Smoking an E.P. Carrillo cigar is truly experiencing a piece of contemporary cigar history.
