ABOUT FOUNDATION
Foundation Cigars was founded in the summer of 2015 by industry veteran and master blender Nicholas Melillo. Nicholas traveled the world procuring tobacco, worked in factories overseeing production, and blended some of the top-rated and best-selling cigars in the industry. You may be new to Foundation Cigars but there’s a good chance you’ve had a cigar that you’ve experienced some of Melillo’s work: before starting his own company, he helped blend many great cigars for Drew Estate.
Foundation describes their philosophy as follows: “Our goal is to work with specially selected tobacconist who recognize our passion and dedication for quality artisan products.” Foundation cigars are produced in Estelí Nicaragua.
If you’re looking for a couple of recommendations, here’s what we consider the best Foundation cigars. The Wise Man Maduro was awarded the #3 ranking on Cigar Aficionado’s 2018 top 25 cigars list and has been a consistent delight ever since. Foundation’s initial offering was the El Gueguense (pronounced “wah-when-say”), crafted at the Aganosa factory in Nicaragua. In this medium-bodied beauty you’ll find a Corojo ’99 wrapper over a mixture of Corojo ’99 and Crillo ’98 filler for a deliciously complex flavor. Foundation also has some great value cigars available with the Charter Oak series in your choice of Connecticut, Habano, or Maduro wrapper.
